Gearmotors

AC gearmotors combine an AC induction motor with a parallel shaft, planetary, or right-angle reducer. They run at a fixed speed, up to 3,400 RPM, and need no external speed control. Class H insulation allows continuous operation at temperatures up to 180°C, and a typical service life runs 20,000+ hours. Starting torque is low with single-phase motors and medium with three-phase. Our AC gearmotor line comes from Parvalux, built in Britain, with inline and right-angle output and worm, spur, and planetary gearbox options.

Best for: continuous-duty industrial equipment that runs at one set speed without a drive.

This line pairs maxon brushed DC and brushless EC motors with four gearhead types. Planetary gearheads handle torque up to 180 Nm across reduction ratios from 4:1 to 6285:1, in diameters from 6 to 81 mm. Spur gearheads suit lighter loads, up to 2 Nm, with ratios from 6:1 to 5752:1 and lower cost and noise. The Koaxdrive combines a worm stage with a planetary stage for unusually quiet running, common in medical equipment. Spindle drives convert rotary output directly into linear force and feed rate. maxon also offers custom gearhead manufacturing using CIM/MIM processes for application-specific requirements.

Best for: compact, high-precision applications, including medical devices, where torque density and low noise both matter.

Applied Motion Products' PH-series gearheads are sized to mount directly to NEMA 8, 11, and 14 step motors and TSM11 StepSERVO integrated motors, in 22 mm, 28 mm, and 35 mm frames. They accept input speeds up to 6,000 RPM and are offered in standard ratios from 4:1 to 36:1, with additional ratios available on request. Precision-cut, all-metal gears keep backlash low without changing the outside dimensions of the motor.

Best for: small step motor applications that need more torque or better inertia matching without a larger footprint.

PMDC gearmotors pair a permanent magnet DC motor with an inline, right-angle, or planetary gearbox. They deliver high starting torque in a compact, fully enclosed package. Class B insulation supports operation up to 130°C, and brush life typically exceeds 2,000 hours, depending on application. A hardened output shaft is available as an option. Best for: cost-sensitive applications needing high starting torque and a compact, enclosed unit.
