SoftGripping

SoftGripping products are pneumatically actuated soft robotic grippers designed for handling delicate, lightweight, or irregular objects. Instead of rigid jaws, these grippers use molded silicone fingers that deform under controlled air pressure. The deformation creates compliant contact that distributes gripping force across a larger surface area, reducing localized pressure on the product.

SoftGripping grippers are primarily used in applications involving:

  • Lightweight objects
  • Deformable products
  • Structured rectangular or cubic parts
  • Food and consumer goods handling


How Do Soft Robotic Grippers Work?

SoftGripping grippers operate using compressed air.

  • Internal air chambers are integrated into silicone fingers.
  • Air pressure (typically within defined low-bar ranges) causes controlled bending.
  • Fingers close in parallel or adaptive motion.
  • Releasing pressure returns the fingers to their original position.

No rigid mechanical joints are present at the contact surface. This reduces contamination zones and mechanical complexity at the gripping interface.

Why Use a Soft Robotic Gripper Instead of a Rigid Gripper?
